Change of Pace

There are so many exciting things going on in our lives right now. One thing is the book coming out in 8 months means we have marketing preparations (articles in magazines, proposals to speak at conferences, etc.) so the book is promoted as soon as it arrives. Another is the ever-expanding array of consulting projects - each one more interesting than the last. Another is the "next book" - I'm starting to see what it needs to look like and plan to start organizing materials for it over this upcoming holiday time.
Normal life goes on, of course - grocery shopping, housekeeping, meals and workouts - all the stuff that keeps the wheels in motion. Plus I just started a course of physical therapy to get my shoulder working properly (rotator cuffs...).
And then there's going to mom's Chute and sitting with her for a while. The wheels of my work life and my "normal" life all grind to a total halt as I generate conversation that I know will not stick, and look around the circle of old ladies who can't live without constant supervision.
Kate's cast is off her hand. She can't talk, but she's happy about it when I tell her it looks good to see her hand again.
Birdie is getting bigger around the middle, and quite agitated about it, but happy to see me and to be with people.
Frannie is in a wheelchair now, still quite articulate but unable to hold her body upright or walk to her chair.
The Lavender lady seems perky as usual, and since she seems able to communicate, I wonder why she's here.
And mom - she's so agreeable to whatever the Activity Lady suggests, and so responsive to attention, that everybody loves her.
I did about 30-35 minutes of this and felt I was going to fall asleep right in the chair. I came home and took a nap. I do not know how the aides keep going.
NOTE TO SELF: Enjoy having body and mind in reasonably good shape. It doesn't last.
