I have been talking with people who are responsible for their Deep Age parent. Some of the quotes I've collected in the past 5 days make it clear that many of us are struggling:
1. My mom is needy this week, and I want to work rather than see her right now, so lots of guilt.
2. Mom is getting frailer and more of a burden for me.
3. She loses things (all the time now) and says people are going into her room and taking her jewelry and pictures.
4. She cannot write checks any more - she sees credit balances and pays them, and pays them, and has paid big hospital bills instead of waiting for her insurance company to pay. she may never get that money back.
5. Mom is going to call a lawyer, since I am so bad.
6.It is often too hard for me to take her shopping. We need to look into a nursing home next year, so there is more assistance. (I hope)
7. She doesn't look so hot today. I am sick of my woe-is-me stuff now.
8. I know I will miss her someday, or she will outlive me.
Caretaker woes.
